Rendition of Jaela Daran by Japanese artist Wamusato [1]

Jaela Daran
is an eleven-year-old girl who serves as the Keeper of the Flame, the spiritual leader of the Church of the Silver Flame. She lives in the Cathedral of the Silver Flame in Flamekeep. She is one of the strongest clerics on Eberron, but has to stay near Flamekeep with the Silver Flame in order to receive her powers.

4th EditionEdit

Jaela Daran was brought over to 4th edition and is mentioned in the Eberron Campaign Guide though there is no mentioning of the description or background that appeared in 3.5 edition. The 4th edition Eberron Campaign Guide only details her age and position.

AppearanceEdit

Jaela usually dresses in simple apparel of dull shades of grey and black and is rarely seen wearing any footwear preferring to walk the marble corridors bare-footed. She has grey eyes and her hair is dark in colour with light streaks through it. Her hair style is a short crop and  She skin complexion is chocolate coloured..

HistoryEdit

Jaela was the daughter of a simple craftman in Flamekeep before all else. At the incredibly young age of four she began to show the ability to foresee catastrophic events through her dreams and nightmares. This led to her Father taking her to see Cardinal Hagaci, who in return took her to be tested at the Church of the Silver Flame. To be tested she was presented to the Silver Flame which warned her of a Lords of Dust cabal operating within the walls of Flamekeep. The knights of Thrane set out and located these Lord of Dust cabals and eliminated them, proving Jaela's connection with the Silver Flame. The council of cardinals dutifully accepted Jaela as the new Keeper and her predecessor stepped down and Jaela began her duties as Keeper of the Silver Flame at the age of just six in 993 YK.

Over the years Jaela has been the target of many assassination attempts by other nations who wish to destabilize Thrane's government.

Duties and LeadershipEdit

As the leader of the Church of the Silver Flame, Jaela must receive theological instructions. She often communes with the Voice often receiving divine warnings of disasters yet to come.

Jaela comes across as humble, modest and even meek, even more so for a leader who's decisions can alter an entire nation's future. After receiving orders from the Voice she will arrange a meeting with the cardinals and councilors to carry out the Voice's plans. Despite common belief Jaela's rule over Thrane and the Silver Flame is not as strong as most believe as the majority of the Church is run by those below her and the Council of Cardinals has enough autonomy to enforce law as it sees fit. At any time a pronouncement from the Voice through Jaela can overule or circumvent the Cardinals authority.

SecurityEdit

Due to all the assassination attempts Jaela rarely leaves the Church of the Silver Flame and on one of these rare occasions she will be escorted by bodyguards and her trip will be carefully planned and well arranged with her safety being paramount.

Like all other Keepers before her Jaela is guarded by Skaravojen a mage-bred dragonhound created by House Vadalis.

In the unfortunate event of Jaela's demise Flamekeep's council are suspected to appoint High Cardinal Krozen as an interim leader.
