Draconic is the language of the dragons.[1] It is also considered to be the language of magic.[2]

Draconic is spoken by the dragons of Argonnessen, as well as other draconic creatures, including dragonborn, kobolds, lizardfolk, and troglodytes.[1][3]

Translations[]

Below are known draconic words and their common translations:[4][5][6][7]

  • dja’valarach: the Vast, great void, or open space[8]
  • drakamakki: dragon-kings
  • drakatha: dragonborn of Argonnessen
  • hathandra: travelers or pilgrims (those who travel)
  • havharag'eth: swordtooth titans
  • randravekk: elf (giant-slave)
  • takarra: wings
  • thir: three (also the name of the dragon religion)
  • trothlorsvek: dragonborn of Q'barra (defenders of the prophecy)
  • ukristroth: bard

Behind the Scenes[]

In the third edition, draconic was the language of the dragons, complete with its own script, also called draconic. With the fourth edition, the script changed to Iokharic, with the debut of the Iokharic script in the sourcebook Draconomicon: Chromatic Dragons.
