Chance is a doppelganger or changeling priest of the Traveler[1][2] and the owner of the famous casino also named Chance in the Dragoneyes district in the Lower Tavick's Landing ward of Sharn.[1][3]

Activities[]

Chance's casino runs all the usual games and sets odds and takes bets on races and sports around Sharn. It also makes more unusual and specific wagers, with just about anything possible—rumors ranged from duels to seducing the Aereni ambassador in under a day, to surviving House Tarkanan assassins for two days, to gambling with a fiend, to betting a year of one's life for a moment of good luck when most needed. Chance will set it up, lay odds, and open betting.[1][3]

Naturally, the casino is secret and mobile.[3]

Description[]

Chance appears in a different form each night, identified only by a specific amulet it wears.[1]

Personality[]

Chance worships the Traveler and in its own way serves the deity as it thinks best. Otherwise, very little is known about Chance. It remains apart from city politics and is not affiliated with the Tyrants of Sharn, though it respects them and might aid them with magic.[1] Chance tells the story of Jes and how the Traveler created the changeling race.[2]

Appendix[]

Notes[]

In Sharn: City of Towers, Chance is a true doppelganger as understood under 3.5-edition rules. However, the word is a synonym for a changeling in 4th edition. In Rising from the Last War, Chance is said to be a changeling.
