The distinction between a leader and a ruler is slight, but significant enough to deserve two seperate categories. A ruler typically lords over an area of land, and the inhabitants thereof, and typically enjoys his role due to bloodline. A leader, on the other hand, typically does not lord over land but guides a group of people with common interests who have volunteered of their own free will to be a part of that group. The leader may be selected due to merit, strength or any other number of qualifications.
