Elementals are the sentient incarnations of the elements that create the world. Most elementals originate on another plane, like Fernia or Lamannia, but some have traveled to Eberron through manifest zones. They are also often summoned from their home planes to be bonded to devices, like airships, by arcane experts, like the gnomes of Zilargo.

In the 3rd edition game mechanics, Elementals are considered one of the major creature types, which are Aberrations, Animals, Constructs, Dragons, Deathless, Elementals, Fey, Giants, Humanoids, Magical Beasts, Monstrous Humanoids, Oozes, Outsiders, Plants, Undead, and Vermin. Within the 3rd edition mechanics, all elementals have 10-sided hit dice; have darkvision; are immune to poison, sleep effects, paralysis and stunning; not subject to critical hits or flanking; does not have a soul and cannot be raised or resurrected; and do not eat, sleep or breathe, amongst other characteristics.
