Animals are living non-humanoids, usually with a vertebrate, with no magical or spell-like abilities and no language of its own. Animals can be generic in nature (like cats, dogs, horses, or wolves), or Eberron-specific, like the dragonhawk or magebred animals.

In the 3rd edition game mechanics, Animals are considered one of the major creature types, which are Aberrations, Animals, Constructs, Dragons, Deathless, Elementals, Fey, Giants, Humanoids, Magical Beasts, Monstrous Humanoids, Oozes, Outsiders, Plants, Undead, and Vermin. Within the 3rd edition mechanics, all animals have 8-sided hit dice, low-light vision, and proficiency with natural weapons, amongst other characteristics.
