Abyssal is the language of demons. Originating on the plane of Shavarath, the fiends brought the language to Eberron during the Age of Demons.[1][2]
Appendix[]
Background[]
In 3rd edition, Abyssal is solely the language of the demons from the plane of Shavarath, with the gnolls and sahuagin speaking their own eponymous languages. However, with the consolidation of languages in 4th edition, the Gnoll and Sahuagin languages were removed, and those two races now speak Abyssal.
